PDFsam Visual is a PDF metadata editor that runs on your desktop. Open a PDF file, pick the Edit metadata tool and change the document properties you need: title, author, subject, keywords or custom properties. The new values are written into the PDF file on your own computer and nothing is uploaded to any server.

How to edit PDF metadata with PDFsam Visual

Open the PDF file in PDFsam Visual, look at the current values for title, author, subject, keywords or custom properties. Change the values you need to change and save the file. You can change values or delete properties you don't need. Editing the document properties doesn't change the pages and their content.

  1. Drag and drop the PDF file you want to edit
  2. Look at the current title, author, subject and keywords
  3. Type the new values you want to set
  4. Click Save

What metadata can you edit in a PDF?

The title is the name of the document, which most PDF readers show in the title bar in place of the file name. The author is the person or organization that wrote it. The subject is a short description of what the document is about, and the keywords are the terms that help search tools find the file. PDFsam Visual edits all four, and it also handles custom properties you define yourself.

What are custom PDF properties?

A custom property is a metadata entry you name yourself, a label and a value stored in the PDF next to the standard fields. It can hold something like a document ID or an internal reference number. PDFsam Visual adds custom properties, edits them and removes them.

We value your privacy

Your PDF files are processed locally and never leave your computer. They are not uploaded to any server, keeping them away from prying eyes.

Check the metadata before you change it

The tool shows the current values when you open a file, so you always know what you are changing.

Change the title a PDF shows

Give a document a proper title instead of a cryptic file name, so it shows up correctly when someone opens it or searches for it.

Fill in the subject and keywords

Add a subject and a few keywords so search tools and document libraries can find the file, not just its file name.

Edit the metadata or remove it

The Edit metadata tool allows you to edit or remove properties but if you would rather strip everything out for privacy before sharing, you can remove the metadata instead.

Supports all major platforms

PDFsam Visual works on all major operating systems, including Windows, macOS and Linux.
